Alan Eugene McAfee passed away peacefully and with his family by his side on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Cottage in the Meadow following a long battle with liver cancer.

Alan was born on April 25, 1961 in Macon, GA to Bobbie and Carol McAfee. His father was in the Air Force, so Alan spent most of his young life in Del Rio, TX and Tucson, AZ before moving to Yakima in 1973. He attended school in Yakima, graduating from Ike in 1979. He attended YVCC before moving to Portland to be a drummer in the band, Outrage. While in Portland, he married, had children, then moved back to Macon, GA to begin a career in insurance. He was an adjuster for several insurance companies for over 17 years. His favorite assignments were going on catastrophe teams following hurricanes.

He had the best laugh ever. Alan was loved by everyone and he never met anyone that didn’t like him. He was the life of the party lots of times. Alan loved music, was an excellent drummer, loved his kids, grandkids, family, and Judy, airplanes, flying, classic rock, fast cars, and pretty ladies. He was a great friend, he was caring, soft hearted, kind, and my best friend. He will be truly missed.

Alan moved back to Yakima in 2009 and met his girlfriend and best friend, Judy Cole. He made lots of good friends and operated his construction company until illness forced him to retire. During his illness he loved to watch TV, especially Two and a Half Men, every day. He was a big fan of the Seattle Seahawks. He never failed to yell at them when they made a bad play but was happy when they won.

Thank you, Judy, for the unconditional love and wonderful care you gave Alan all these years. He knew how lucky he was that you were in his life. He loved you very much. Thanks to Dr. Lascar for your care during his illness. Thanks to everyone at North Star Lodge for the kind treatment given to Alan during his visits.

Alan and Judy had a greyhound named, Sonny, whom Alan loved, and Sonny loved him. While he was sick, Sonny would sit with him and comfort him. Sonny passed away 2 years ago with cancer. Any memorials for Alan please donate to Greyhound Pets of America Greater Northwest or All Mutts Great and Small, sent in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936).

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Bobbie, his step-brother, Greg Bartleson, his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his longtime love and caregiver, Judy Cole, children, Tyler McAfee and Michelle Dorton, and three grandchildren, Maddie, Lila, and Jack Dorton. He is also survived by his parents, Mike and Carol Bartleson, brother, Mark (Joanna) McAfee, sisters, Kim Bartleson and Jan (Scott) Engquist, along with several nieces and nephews.
